British Council of Offices: Cycling facilities are key

In Spring 2012 the British Council of Offices (BCO) invited its members and other interested parties to take part in a quick and easy survey, Cycling and the Modern Workplace. They wanted to investigate the cycling habits of office users and particularly of those who design, develop and manage office buildings. Office managers are in a position to raise awareness of the health and sustainability benefits of cycling.

Key findings include:

Building for cyclists
■ The quality and availability of workplace cycle facilities influences the career choices of more than half of respondents.
■ An overwhelming majority of respondents (92.6%) say there has been an increase in demand for cycling facilities in the offices sector, mainly driven by occupiers rather than developers or investors.
